Paris Olympics 24: Indian Men’s Hockey Team Lost 2-1 to defending Champion Belgium

The Indian men’s hockey team lost its first match 2-1 to defending champions Belgium at the Paris 2024 Olympics at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium in Colombes on Thursday.

 

Abhishek (18’) scored for the Indian hockey team but Thibeau Stockbroekx (33’) and John-John Dohmen (44’) goals gave stunning victory to Belgium.

Belgium started the beginning in attacking mode but Indian team defended very well . During that period Abhishek dodged the Belgium defence and scored a goal by hitting right side to the keeper and stunned Belgium.

Both the teams got penalty corners but were unable to convert it into goal and India maintained its advantage.

In the early minutes after the half-time break Belgium player Thibeau Stockbroekx successfully levelled the match through a goal.

On the edge of the third quarter, Belgium player John-John Dohmen who was a substitute shocked Indian team by smashing a goal, Indian keeper Sreejesh tried to save but number of Belgium players was higher than Indian players in the D.

Indian team could not break Belgium team defence in the final quarter that led Belgium to a fourth win.

The Indian men’s hockey team has already set their quarter-finals berth by winning two matches – against Ireland and New Zealand – and drew against  Argentina.

India will play world No. 4 Australia, In the final of Paris 2024 Olympics hockey Pool B match on Friday.
